The Art of Beeswax Candle Making - Workshop
The use of beeswax to make candles, (and many other products), goes back hundreds of years.
In this workshop, you will step into the world of beeswax candle making, where you will not only craft your own candles to take home, you will also delve into beeswax alchemy, art, science and folklore.
The workshop will blend history, creativity and practical candle making techniques.
On the day we will:
*Explore the history of beeswax candle making, how honey bees make it, and how it is harvested and rendered for use;
*Discuss the alchemy of beeswax, it's special characteristics and sustainability compared to other waxes;
*Look at candle wicking, different types of wicks and choosing the correct one for a specific candle;
*Explore ways to melt and filter beeswax, and cover essential skills, tools, equipment and work spaces;
*Discuss important health and safety considerations necessary for candle making;
You will have the opportunity to make your own candles, including;
*rolled beeswax candle
*moulded beeswax candle
*dipped beeswax candle
Workshops take place at The Old Dairy Farm Craft Centre, Upper Stowe, Northamptonshire, NN7 4SH, and run from 12 noon to 2.30pm approximately.
There will be tea, coffee, water and cake available throughout the session.
Free parking onsite, toilets also onsite.
All materials are provided on the day. Wear comfortable clothing- anything you won't mind getting wax on!
Please note your candles will need to cure for five days before being lit.
